Thank you for starting this site. I suffered through my Mother's schizophrenia for my entire life. She started in high school but no one ever realized what was wrong. She was finally hospitalized and treated when I was 12 or 13 and I am finally coming to terms with the damage done to me psychologically growing up with her problems. I hope to recover completely from these affects at some point. My guilt, depression, anxiety, and anger have been a problem for me for as long as I can remember. I am receiving treatment from a good therapist but this support group can help augment his treatment. Thank you, again!

Mars,

I hope this doesn't sound "detached" or cold, but there has been a lot of research done on the children of schizophrenic parents. I haven't read any of it personally, but it's been discussed in class. That might be something for you to look into- you know to help you remember you are not alone and that the effects of your mother's illness on you are NOT your fault.

(((hugs))) <--only if you want them. I can imagine that made for a tough childhood. Thank you, Dr. John Sorry for your pain.

Angela

Thank you - I would love to know more about this topic. I appreciate all of hte support from this forum as I discover "who" I am - almost all memories of my childhood before my mother was hospitalized (virtually from birth to age 12 or so) are gone. Those that I do remember are very frightening. My T is working with me to make sense of everything - and to reassure me that none of it is my fault. Thank you for supporting that. If you know of any data or personal anecdotes that I can access I would appreciate it. Thanks again!
