i've been doing research on the medication my freakin doctor gave me for anxiety and depression. Don't take anti-depressants if you're suffering symptoms of schizophrenia. Even though they help out with social anxiety, they can worsen the psychotic behavior of schizophrenics. Anti-depressants contain a chemical the body produces to make people happy... serotonin. Serotonin is the opposite of the sleep hormone, melatonin. In the daytime, the sun produces serotonin on our skin. At night it is converted to melatonin. Without sleep damage can be caused to the brain. Nights without sleep cause hallucination. Schizophrenics are usually found with a deficiency of melatonin in their system. Serotonin also helps increase brain activity which is bad for psychotics.

Hi and Welcome-

I think it is great that you are doing research on the medication you recieve from your Doc.

It is imprortant to remeber that each patient and person has a different chemistry and that as one article may debate the use of antidepressants in Schizophrenia--there are many types and forms of Schizophrenia and it is important to trust your doc in determaning what medications are the best for each individual. If you are just starting out on a new medication such as an anti-depressant, I would voice your concerns with the Doc if possible or a Pharmacist if you feel the medication to be a threat to your individual well being they may be able to explain in more detail why the Doc has chosen this medication for you.

I STRONGLY ADVISE and person or persons who are currently taking ANTI DEPRESSANTS and HAVE BEEN TAKING THEM FOR MORE THAN SEVERAL DAYS and are NOT having problems currently with the medication ~PLEASE DO ~NOT~ STOP YOUR MEDICATION~ WITHOUT TALKING TO YOUR DOCTOR FIRST!! Some antidepressant medications need to be reduced very slowly to keep you from having ~BAD WITHDRAWLS~ and could be dangerous to stop taking the medications suddenly without the monitoring of your doctor.

It is important to remember that not all of what we read on the internet or pharmacy printout has to do with each and every person taking the medication.

I find myself to avoid reading the side effects on the printout from the pharmacy as I am prone to having PSYCHOSOMATIC SIDE EFFECTS~ that is that I begin to believe and actually feel almost all of the side effects they list. If you are on the medication already and have not had the side effects or do think you are I would advise you to contact your Doctor or if your Doctor is unavailable I would advise to call a 24-Hour Pharmacy and speak with a staff Pharmacist if you feel you are experiencing bad or negative side effects.

It is imortant for me to take my medications even when they seem to not be working and STRONGLY SUGGUST TO KEEP TAKING ANTIDEPRESSANTS EVEN IF YOU ARE DIANOSED WITH PSYCHOSIS OR SCHIZOPHRENIA--

KRZYCHRIS

I agree with Chris wholeheartedly.

Please do not stop taking your meds without talking to your doctor first.

Take Care,
Kimberly.
