My GCSE results...

I just cried about them.
I'm let down by them.

English - E
Maths - E
Science - C
Art - C

The art and science are okay, but the english and maths... I'm let down... :/

I was even myself expecting a better grade than E, especially for english, but just... guess not...

Last year in December, I got ill and have been since, and it really made school tougher than it already was, I was under stress and poorly and BS like that...

I just wish it went differently...

I'm not sure what to do now...

I can still go to college but I am contemplating that anyway due to circumstances.
I have posted about the UK system and all regarding GCSE exams, so hope that helps confusion with it.

I do not know a lot about the UK testing system, could you share how this affects you? Can you re-test? After some tutoring? We are all here for you

"The results of GCSE examinations, including those for Short Courses, are reported on an eight point grade scale :
A* (a*)
A (a)
B (b)
C (c)
D ( d )
E ( e )
F ( f )
G (g)

of which Grade A* (a*) is the highest and Grade G(g) the lowest.

Candidates who fail to reach the minimum standard required for Grade G (g) are shown as unclassified. Only subjects in which Grades A* (a*) to G(g) are attained will be recorded on certificates."

I'm not gonna resit, I passed all of them, got 4 passing GCSE's, but the E's have upset me.

I love art, so I got a good grade, science was a bit shocked.

I have been through a lot in the past year, I have been poorly since December, a lot of stress going on, mentally in a lot of mess, and well, pressure too...

I was told I'm creative and intelligent in English, and was predicted a D, maybe a C, and in Maths, meh, I struggle with a lot of subjects, but Maths was predicted a D, somewhere around there I think...

The grades went lower in the past year from a lot going on, so... I dunno.

I can still get in college, but even so, regarding that, I'm contemplating, due to my health(physically and mentally) and stuff.

I could resit them later in life maybe... I don't know.

I'm sorry you feel let down by your results. I am not sure what you can do now either but I just wanted to offer my support.

Pup,

I don't know the British system either. For Art you did so well and that doesn't surprise me given your talents (and that's for only attending part of the year).

Here for you, as always...

I am sorry PUP that you are struggling with these grades. YOU are a very special person, and hopefully the grades will not postpone any further arrangements for Schooling, that you may wanting to attempt in the future. I think over all if you take all the averages you still did Quite well, despite your dilemas you faced during the year. Take care (((PUP))). Soidhonia

What kinds of things have you been going through? Are you in therapy? Perhaps after high school you could take some time off to address your mental health, than go back to college? Write us more?

As I said, I have been ill since December, my mental health has always been bad, and things have been a mess outside of myself regarding family and stuff.

I've been going through too much and a lot of stress too.

Glad you passed! Math and English are two very fundamental courses for college. If you can't take assistive courses before college, make sure you don't take on very heavy courses IN college. Everything hinges on those two basics, and you'll struggle with most classes until you can bring those skills up.

Try to stop worrying, and instead find out how you can improve those areas, and feel better about it.

((sky)) Is right ((pup))) Im not sure as everyone has said here on how it works in the UK.
I know here only form my son that when you go to college you take a plcaement test. As with my son ...and i was shocked he placed low in math. Which he has always done good in. But if you have a problem reading well he scored low. On englis too of course. So he will take math and english that he will get no credit for. the yare courses to get him caught up.
which maybe all you need as you missed alot this year as you said. WIth him He has A LD. He may never get caught up on that. Sorry to relate it to him. Thats the only way i can. With him . Hes most talented in building creating art. Im hoping one day he will see his gift as a gift. Not just what he can do. BTW as sky said ..my son can not do a full course...think about what she said

you said (((I love art, so I got a good grade)))) imo follow what you love
good luck to you and remember you can always get tutoring. also online courses?

PS One good way (very effective) to help someone increase their English and reading skills is to provide "gobs" of materials on the subject they love the most. Even if it's comic books or magazines, if they read and read and read, their skills will automatically improve. If those items to read are on their favorite subject (sport, game whatever) they WILL keep looking and reading them.

I wouldn't call it therapy... she doesn't really talk to me about what bothers me, just demands things from me.

Anyway, my English is quite good, my writing skills is quite poor, and my reading is a bit bad, Maths is hard for me too, so I dunno...

Anyway, thanks for the support, I see a CFS/M.E Nurse soon so I will ask her what to do regarding my health and all. I was gonna do childcare but I don't think I'll be able to. Maybe an art course will be good. Relaxing... something I like... I'm not sure...

I feel like a failure.
I'm not good at anything.
I'm not really confident in anything.
English...meh... Maths...meh...
Art I like...
Science...meh...
I struggle with subjects and well... things going on with me make it hard to do things relating to education wise...
:/

maybe taking care of children is your calling? There are so many different ways to do this, nannying, after school care, daycare, summer camps, I did this for years and now am working toward teacher certification, i wish this for you, perhaps this could be _you, children and working with children is God's call to take care of God's very creatures, I believe

I'm not in the UK or Britain but from other forums and a friend, I've come to understand how it runs. For English, just read and read and read. My English was pretty poor when I started school. Parents were working and my grandmother who baby-sat me spoke horrible English (although my parents speak English perfectly). Anyways, just read and in addition to that, why not try going to an online forum that's meant for objective debating. You'll not only broaden your views on whatever subject but it allows you to engage in the literature you're reading. Even on PC, if there's a thread devoted for a debate or discussion, then hop in, same with the chat. Or if you'd rather not join a debate, go to a bookstore (preferably a used bookstore to save on cost) and buy whatever books. Try to buy from a variety of authors who write different genres so you can get a nice diverse sample.

For science and math, lots of it comes down to having a good instructor, book and a style of learning that meets yours. If you have certain questions about a topic or a math question, then post them here (or another forum) or ask in real-life.

This year (my third year in university) I'll be a facilitated studier/advisor, which is basically when an undergraduate doesn't get paid but they help explain whatever in the course is not making much sense to the students (generally first-years). You sometimes can be able to look over their papers but you cant grade them nor can you tell them exactly what to do. It's optional for the students to participate in. I'll be doing this for biology, so if there's a question on science (including other non-biology sciences), I'll try to explain it coherently.
Thanks for this!
