Not to exaggerate, but ever since I've been in this high school, my life is miserable. I have the feeling that all students are immature, they basically brag about their life everyday and be extremely rude to the teachers in class. Today, in Economics, some students even lied to the new teacher to get out of the class earlier than expected. Others just say bad words in front of her without any respect (bad words here includes: f**k, son of a b***h, wh***e etc. etc.)
Even worse, I feel that my privacy has been violated. Since I'm pretty much one of the few student who are conscious of studying, everyone in the class tries to either copy my homework, spying on what I do and what did I bring. (I usually bring novels to school) How do I cope with this?

How long have you been in that school; did you recently change from somewhere else? Is it getting any better as time goes by? Sometimes it's hard to identify people we might like at first. I moved away in 4th grade and came back to the area in 11th and even though people I'd known in elementary school and been best friends with were still there, we were very different and that made me really lonely and scared as I was "new" and had been to another high school, etc. It takes time to get a bit more comfortable both physically and with the people.
I met a couple people walking home from school and they're still friends now, 40+ years later. Once you identify even one person to get to know, it gets a bit better in classes, even those that are more disruptive.

Your question is a good one lonelyperson. It is timely and pertanent.
In my work with substance abuse I am blessed to interact with many young people. Some are nearly as sharp as you.... ![]() You are not as alone as you might think. There are many focused, determined and schoolastic students who feel as you do. I often suggest seeking the similar minded in clubs, projects or atheltics. We cannot battle the misguided alone. Comfort comes with numbers. I know you are in a new school and it is hard to break through. Talk to you guidence counselor and find out about theater, or book clubs or any extra carricular activity that interests you. Join, join,,join. The more people you meet the more "nicer" people you will get to know and they to know you.... With Care, Lenny

I'm sorry you are having a hard time in high school. I agree with Lenny that you should look into any clubs that you might be interested in or sports. That will let you meet people you might not meet in class who are interested in things that you are. I hope it gets better. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
