Hi

I just can't study anymore. I can't concentrate and it makes me angry at myself which results in a panic attack. Every time I try to go back to school and study I end up on the verge of tears and gasping for breath. I've made up my mind. I'm not going back. School just isn't my thing. I know I'm clever enough. I could have gone on to being a brain surgeon or something if I didn't have mental health issues, but the truth is that I do have mental health issues and I have difficulty finishing high school. So what? I'll try my luck somewhere else. There's nothing to stop me putting all my efforts in karate, which is my greatest passion and if people are going to judge me by my academic degree, to hell with them!

Thanks kitten. Yes I am on therapy and a fat lot of good it's been! But I guess I was really upset when I made that post. I really shouldn't drop out.

Please try at least to finish you high school. a degree will help you in live... and no, your mental health doesn't have to hold you back. Do not think along that line... try to get some book on how to study and find what suits you.

Maybe a counsellor in school could help you?

I considered to drop out frm the university a lot of times. Its like a living hell to consider such options when i know that how much important it is for me to finish my university degree.

hiya,

do you know of anything that triggers the inability to concentrate? It could range anywhere from studying at home with a lot of distractions to having horrible associates with school related stuff because of bullying or even the way your parents had you study.

From what I've learned, concentration issues are easily labeled as an adhd issue, but depression also makes life hard to focus on. I'm not suggesting you have depression, but rather that maybe current life events are triggering some past trauma or conflict somewhere-thus the anxiety.

Another note here...you mentioned karate; that's an aggressive activity there..but I notice that you said it's what makes you happy. Well, depression is also considered to be "anger turned inward" upon oneself...
you said

"I can't concentrate and it makes me angry at myself".

I feel that you have a lot of anger, and maybe you wernt always allowed to express that as a kid without being penalized. The karate allows you to get some of that anger out. Well, my guess is from an analytical approach-you have reasons to be angry, and the thought is that if you talk about it, relive those times in hardcore detail, cry it out-you won't spend so much energy holding back your anger, because you would have released it through getting some validation through others. A lot of the time we don't even realize that some of the things we went through as a kid are not "normal"...like a mom that guilt-tripped all the time or more extreme examples.

Hope that helped, take care

Strength for you!

I have very hard times dealing with school too. I cry very often because I have to go there and actually I have been doing it since I was a kid. But for me even worse than going to school is that some day I should go to work.
