So I am the one that wrote the other thread Teacher Certification Failure and now I am back with more bad news. I decided to buy a book on the THEA test that I now have to take because my three years of college have yet to show proof that I am very capable of being apart of the Teacher Certification Program (sarcasm). I am known to be a brilliant kid with good grades my transcript shows it however I am still being forced to take the darn THEA test. I decided that today was the day that I would take the practice exam out of my newly bought book. And Sure enough I fail the reading section (the only part I have taken so far) hard. Not just a 60% fail but a 53% fail. It hurts to know that I can't pass the THEA, which is known for how easy it is. It's actually really embarrassing and discouraging. I have to get a 260 (which I'm not sure what that equivocates to in percentages but I'm sure its not a 53%) on the reading section. I just feel like a failure now and have no courage to get my butt up and study the material so I can get better at it, because I am a hard core perfectionist. I didn't expect to do so horrible but going through it I already knew I was going to fail. It's like they set you up to fail. It's like the stupid SAT. I just want to sit in a corner, be a baby, and cry because I am not one to handle my emotions well at all. I'm bipolar if that makes a difference or not and a schizophrenic to top it off, which makes me feel more like failure with each passing day. I just want to give up on school and my dreams of becoming a teacher because they seem like unreachable goals. I think I set them too high and I think I should just give up now.

I thought you said you got an F in one of your major courses? Anyway, if you really want to teach, focus more on learning the necessary material rather than taking practice exams. Practice exams only help once you already have a solid base.

Yes but the F doesn't affect anything but my GPA. Turns out I don't even need the class for my new major . . . thank goodness. It is just tough taking something that you would assume be easy but it turns out to kick you in the butt.

How far away are from actually taking the exam? 1. If it is some time off, you may not have all the material you need to to take even the practice tests anyway. 2. If it is close to the time you should be taking it, you still need to focus on your current materials and will also need to get a hold of the study materials that are tools to help to take the test, the study guides for it BUT only closer to the time that you're going to take it, several months ahead of it.
I would think the low grade on the practice test is also because you aren't completely focused right now; you are distracted by all that it is going on with school, life choices, and stressed about it all. I can't say that even that practice score is accurate given the circumstances. Take a deep breath and a step back from it all. Work on your current material, and wait to work on practice tests during the break AFTER you get the study guides for the tests to go through first. Knowledge before testing is setting yourself up for failure and that isn't reality. You CAN do this but in a different order and with great success. Focus on one moment at a time, and the task at hand, you will get there but you have to take the steps to get there; taking flight without your wings will only send you crashing back. You will get there and with flying colors, you really will. |
