Math... What can I say about math? other than 1,2,3. I wish it was that easy. For some reason math and I have never gotten along, ever! I have been in college for 3 years now and Math is the only subject I struggle in badly and tend to fail all the time. In fact I was going to one college and because I failed a math class, my aid was taken from me I couldn't go there anymore So I ended up starting at a new college last year, was flying with colors even made the Deans list, but not no more. I had to take College Algebra this quarter, and I worked extremely hard and so on yet I still have an F, it doesn't make sense to me. I work hard, do study groups, do all my homework, and so on, but yet I still fail, and when I get a test, I fail it, but yet I can understand the material. I do have problems reading numbers, and it does take me awhile to understand the material, and things do have to be broken down step, by step. I wish I didnt have to take math. It stresses me out badly, makes me feel like I'm stupid and keeps me from succeeding in college. Does anyone else have this problem? and do you have any advice?
Math is one of the reasons why I stopped going for a degree in zookeeping technology and vet tech, I couldnt understand it so I had to let go of one of the things that made me happy.

Math's a tough one. Broke my heart with a change in career as a result too. Hope you can get a tutor or study group to help!

You might find out if your college has any special help, since you said you have problems reading numbers. Many colleges do. I am in college algebra, too, and I hate it. I have one more math class after this one, and then no more math! Also, you might look up algebra help on the internet. There are some sites that can help. Good luck with it!

My best friend in college was my math prof (now if that isn't a mental health issue I don't know what is!). She had the following quote from Aristotle on her door:

"The good Christian should beware the mathematician and all those who make empty prophecies. The danger already exists that the mathematicians have made a covenant with the devil to darken the spirit and to confine man in the bonds of hell." -

on a more serious note...

You may want to get tested for a learning disability in math. I was lucky in college to have the best math professor anyone could ever ask for. She taught modern math with giant home baked chocolate chip cookies, statistics with M&N's... All of it with great kindness and patience. Wish I could overnight her to you. If someone was trying as hard as you are in one of her classes she wouldn't let them fail. She wouldn't stop trying until she knew why it was so hard for you AND how she could make it easier. I didn't take her college algebra class, she wouldn't let me. Said it was the hardest of her classes for students to get. She knew it would overwhelm me if I couldn't understand it. Is there another math class you can take with a different type of math? I took modern math first because I was math phobic but with the profs help I went on to take 2 other math classes with her as electives! Not all math is the same. I do best in geometry and statistics and even like math now.
Anyway... if I can help feel free to PM me. If I understand it I am good at coming up with different ways to teach it.

Since I didnt do well in my College Algebra, my Math pro, who is also head of the math department at the college, said for me to go to Business Algebra, as it would be easier for me, he also has helped alot and it turns out he'll be teaching Business Algebra next quarter, in which I plan on taking with him again. I didnt have to take the college Algebra, it was an option for me to take it was that or Business Algebra. It was suppose to be my last math class. I took it as a challenge and in hopes I could pass and it transfer so I can maybe, just maybe go back to my zoo/vet tech degree where I was very happy. I just took the finale today as my prof. let me take it again since I was boarder lined, I struggled badly even though I studied my butt off. I'm hoping I passed it just so I dont have to do math anymore. BUT if not at lest I tried my best and that is all that maters I guest.

Omers I loved that quote! Thanks for sharing!

Whats strange also for me is that I can understand "advance" math but not the basics, so the basics kill me more than anything else other than having trouble reading numbers, etc. Someone told me that Einstein was the same way, I fund that to be inspiring and interesting.
