I was sitting down and a school commercial came on I started like daydreaming about sitting alone at the lunch table since I won't know anyone and thinking about anything to do with interacting with people partnering up or anything....I am scared to death. I'm such a weirdo. I should focus on my school work and all like passing but..I'm scared to partner up with someone ...sitting at a table with someone I'm seriously scared to talk ...is this social anxiety? P.S This is the right forum right ??? :S

Hi Katix3. I meant to reply to this earlier, and never got around to it. Sorry about that.

I understand what it is like to have social anxiety. It's a lot worse than people who haven't experienced it assume that it is. As humans, we need social acceptance, just like we need food and water. When this fundamental psychological need remains unmet, we feel a host of negative emotions-sadness, anxiety, frustration, anger- and have dark and anxious thoughts. You are not alone in feeling the way you do, even though it probably seems that way.

You should consider seeing a therapist. S/he can help you learn how to overcome your anxiety so you can form the human bonds that you so need and deserve. Get help, and don't let your anxiety deprive the world of the privilege of getting to know you!
Thanks for this!

It will be ok. Sit down, smile at people, say hello and if you have something good to eat to offer others, do so. A good way to open a conversation is to ask a question you think the person can answer. P.S. Once I embraced my 'inner weirdo' and started accepting other people's inner weirdo, I have never lacked for conversation partners. Courage!

Thanks I'm sorry didn't have time to respond but It isn't as bad as I thought. I'm still kind of awkward with like talking to people that I don't really know.I'm working on it trying to put myself out there as much as possible.

Hi Katix3, you are not alone that's for sure. I feel those same anxieties being with people, and like you am also trying to overcome them. From using PC, I have had great suggestions from members and one of these that I've tried and has been helpful is to take a deep breath and really consider the other person. I think this has helped because making myself really think about the other person, takes the focus off my own insecurities even for a moment. I think about who they really are, what their story might be, their experiences, their own insecurities too etc & I find it gives relief & helps me feel empathic (even for a moment) about the other. I also try and use this when I am feeling jealous or angry or whatever. I have a long way to go, but anyway, this kind of has been helping...

Wishing you every happiness
Thanks for this!

I understand I feel the same way it is always difficult for me to talk to people I don't know but I do my best and somehow I have made a few friends, and I hope you can do the same.
Thanks for this!
