I'm currently enrolled in college and it's online. The first course was great and my GPA was a 4.0 but now I'm in the second course and I am losing motivation. I'm having a really hard time focusing on my work and keeping up with my studies. I know I need a college degree but I just can't seem to get it together. I am under a lot of stress right now and I know that doesn't help but this always happens to me. I start off strong then it fades and I can't focus.

Does this happen to a lot of students? How do you get your motivation back when you start to lose it?

It definitely seems to happen to a lot of people. Something you can do is remind yourself why are you working for this degree. You've made it through before and have been very successful with the first course, so you can do it again!

Maybe you feel burnt out, I went through the same thing. Is 'a course', a semester? It might be different from my school. Plan your daily schedule and stick to it, make sure you get enough sleep and eat right. It also helps to journal which helps with organization , find out what you find relaxing. I take a hot bath, walk my dog, talk it out.

You said you need a degree, what are the reasons, are you doing it for yourself or because you feel forced to/because you just need it? When is your next break from the courses?

Yes, remember why you want to reach the finish line. Also, remember that some courses are just going to appeal to you more than others. I didn't like some of my college courses, but I hung in there because I knew I had to take them. But, if needed, a break now and then might be called for!

Thank you for your response!

I am enrolled in an online university, instead of semesters we have courses that are 7 weeks long. After every completed course we start another one. We can go at our own pace if needed. I might have to call my adviser and see if it is possible for me to take a little break. The reason I'm going after a degree is that I need it. I have seen my family members struggle to make it and I don't want to be a victim of that. I kind of feel pressured because they all expect me to be this person that is capable of great success. Which I can be but I feel so lost, and like I'm doing it for the wrong reasons. I'm unsure of what I should do at this point.
