So, I have already accepted some interviews for graduate schools. I tend to get really nervous (going to take medicine before I go)...but I need to know answers to certain questions and I can't think of a good answer:
Like, "What was the biggest obstacle in your life?" "If you had to do one thing over/regret one thing, what would it be and what would you do to correct it? "How you have dealt with an error you made and fixed it?" If someone can answer or help me figure out an answer so that I feel like I won't die during the interview, I'd really appreciate it. |

Unfortunately I don't have any experience with this type of interview...but wouldn't mind ALSO knowing how to answer these questions well too for when I may apply in the future (please?)
![]() Can I ask what are you applying to for graduate school? I hope you get help soon and this process goes well to continue onto this next great step! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have gone to Graduate School. Try to take it easy. I don't know you, but you have obviously overcome all the challenges of being an undergrad;finances, study, making friends. This isn't that different. In fact, because it's your chosen study you will probably like it. I'm sure you will do just fine! Just be yourself during the interview. I wish you good luck in all your studies.

I'm thinking these answers are supposed to be based on an individual's life, so the responses would vary. Are you concerned that you'll give truthful answers that will turn the interviewers off?

I can't believe they'd ask questions like that...
For me, it was something like: What are your career plans? Why are you interested in this school's graduate program? And then answer questions about the materials I had to submit to be considered for the program. There's no reason for them to ask personal questions like that...but maybe my experience was just different. |

Would you like to run your possible questions and answers by us and get some feedback? I don't know what they will ask, but I did have a son who applied to a university and was asked about a challenge he had faced on the application form. I suggested he not tell them both his parents are mentally ill.

I have read that you should always put a positive spin on your answers. For instance, if you say your greatest obstacle was finishing you degree while having to work part time. You can then say you really had to learn to budget your time and set priorities so you could get all the important things done and still earn a living. Or, you could say your obstacle was not leving close to your school and it was hard for you to get to the library so you had to get really good at using the internet for research and finding the information you needed.
Good luck. |
