I've been unschooled for a year now and, while it is better than public school, it is not helping me in terms of my mental well being.

I found a boarding school that I would love to go to. The philosophy is very similar to that of unschooling, but there would be more opportunities for me. There are music and art classes and adventure classes. I might even be able to make friends there. Everything about it seems perfect, but I know that I won't be able to handle it. I know that I wouldn't be able to make it to my classes. I know that I would worry constantly.

I keep switching between thinking that it is perfect for me and that I can absolutely thrive there to thinking that there is no way it would work out. I just wish that I wasn't ill and that I could do this.

Are there any schools with programs that are tailored to people with your diagnosis?

sometimes i wish i wasn't in school because you only make a few friends and then later those friends don't talk to you anymore. Well, not anymore, but not as often as you would expect them to. You grow apart. I wanted to go to a school where there's a good amount of diversity. Unfortunately, our school is just not that multicultural. I want it be a melting pot, where different people get to learn about each other and what they have to offer to the world and everything. Our hangout group is filled with the same race and i'm just sick of it. I only see people hanging out with their own ethnicities. I mean, it's kind of like segregation again, but it's an improved version of it. We do talk to each other, but we never hang out with each other.

Also, I would hate to be the only (ethnicity) to be in a group.

There are, but unfortunately they aren't something I can afford.

If I were you, I'd call the boarding school and ask if they would consider you as a Skype student. Maybe you could attend classes on your "good" days and be there via Skype on your bad days. Don't discount the idea right off. Try looking into it if it sounds workable for you. Ask to speak to someone in charge and fight to get it if you really want it. This is just a thought. I hope it gives you some ideas. Don't give up. People who need special accommodations often have to fight for them.

We all need to have access to socialization. It's true that some friendships fade away but sometimes, just sometimes, you do meet special friends you can hold onto for a long time. The chance is worth taking. Best to you.

I left because I didn't feel like I was learning and for mental health reasons, but now I can't go back due to my mental health (mostly because of agoraphobia).

have you tried scholarship? if you can find a theraputic boarding school, it might also be covered by insurance.
