I just applied for a year-long program but it does not start until September. I have ordered all the books (and I don't even know if I'll be accepted into the program :-) and will probably start to devour them as they come in but I was wondering what other people are doing with their summer; what they feel about summer and the break from school or if they go to school year round (did that last time) including the summer semester or what.

I wish this program started sooner.

My program doesn't have many classes in the summer. I should be off doing field work, but I have an injury. I would like to be working, but I'm not. I am just taking one of the basic classes I missed taking earlier, so I go up there to the school often for just this one class. I have other things to do there, but it feels kind of self-indulgent. I am trying to get healthier and rehab my injury. I guess that and my class are my top priorities this summer.

What are you going to study?

I've decided to finally get my associates degree in liberal arts and I start that in the fall. If everything goes according to plan (har har har), I'll be graduating with my AA next spring. I thought about trying to take some classes over the summer, but it's actually been a real hassle to get everything settled just to start in the fall. Plus, all the online courses are wait listed. I might check again in a few days, maybe people will drop once the summer session starts.

So, in the mean time, I'm finishing up some loose ends from last semester, and concentrating on getting active as a part of my mental health treatment plan. Plus, my one year wedding anniversary is coming up and I have some other travel plans this summer as well.

H3rmit, I hope your injury heals quickly!

Congrats on applying and going back!

Some summers I need a break and will use it; others depending on what classes are offered, I need to go to school over the summer. Unfortunately I don't have a choice this summer as one of the two classes that I need to finish my Bachelor's is only offered second summer session, and I will have have three weeks before second summer session starts after finishing the Associates on Friday. I am really looking forward to the break this time. However, I have to use some of it to study for a certification exam that I have to take between July-August too; so it is not much of a summer here this time around.

It can be nice to have the summer to review the materials for an upcoming class, to start to get into the habit of reading again if have not in awhile, but at least it is at your leisure. Summer surprisingly passes quickly. I would enjoy the time that I have during the summer if nothing was pressing as time can be so limited once school starts back; you will be able to enjoy getting back into school soon enough. Congrats on going back and good luck with your classes!

I haven't been in college for 6+ years and have no references (I've been retired from my job for 8+) and that's making things difficult; I only want to take the course for my own purposes so I'm hoping they'll just "take the money" and let me worry about whether I can do the work or not.

I've gotten 3 of the 5 recommended books, the total, being college books, was over $100 so now I'll just be pissed if I don't get into the course.

What program are you applying for, Perna? I hope you get accepted.

I'm taking this summer off: I really needed the break. I still have two papers to finish, and then I'll have an actual vacation. This will be my first summer off. Hopefully I'll feel rejuvenated and all for the Fall semester.

This is the summer between my senior year of high school and my freshman year of college. I'm just going to sleep in a lot. Oh, and I play softball.

So, 6+ weeks later I had not heard whether I got in the program yet or not and I leave tomorrow on two weeks vacation so I finally broke down to email and ask as politely as I could what's with the application status. They write back that everything will be in as soon as they get the "commentary" needed and I reply that I'm not sure I know what commentary they are talking about but if it is the essay I was supposed to write, I turned that into the director by email June 6, but here's another copy. . . Oops, thanks for that and she'll get right on it but the director is on vacation until August 9, then the committee will meet and decide and she'll get back to me soon after that.

I'm taking the main/first recommended textbook with me on vacation, assuming I am going to get in.
