I was really struggling because I just started an episode of seasonal depression so my energy and concentration and motivation went all away. There is one class that is really picky and had a large project and also a final exam.

I asked my shrink what to do and he gave me one dose of Ritalin to help me concentrate. I was able to at least go over the material, but still didn't feel all that great.

The exam was not based on lectures or slides but almost entirely the textbook. Sorta unfair. We all studied the same material so we all did about the same. Everyone was really pissed off. At least he promised to grade on a curve, but that is crazy because if we all failed then we all get As?????

Yeah, at my age it is kinda infantilizing to have to study for a useless test like that when the studying did nothing with learning and only was rote memorization and mostly stress. Everyone felt the same way but they are younger so didn't feel as resentful as I did.

Aww Arch. Don't stress too much, the combination of outside stress and then the stress of a bad prof is a lot to handle as far as achieving a reasonable grade. All I can recommend is to forget about this course and move on to the next one. Good luck on any other finals, if you have any.

I'm sorry the test didn't go the way you expected. Since most people didn't perform too well, your teacher might curve it.

I bombed my marketing final last night. Bleah. Studied so hard for it. I have another final tomorrow and I can't stop crying. I hate how MH issues get in the way.

Thanks for all the encouragement. I am moving on. Have to. I have to finish one more project today for tomorrow. He promised to grade on a curve and most of the students said they did terribly so he can't fail us all.

Vossie, sorry to hear. I also hate how mental health stuff gets in the way. It sucks and feels totally unfair and frustrating. Hang in there. My shrink told me: Perfection is not of the world. Getting through is the real victory.

That really helps! I hate cramming, but I didn't have much choice what with having a psychotic break 10 days ago. My brain was toast for awhile. I was already behind because of minor surgery recently. I have all day to study and I really enjoy the class and material. But I'm having a hard time not freaking out and crying and thinking all sorts of negative thoughts. Fortunately I have an A going into this final.

Wow, that is lot to be dealing with. Glad you have perspective though and an A going into it plus some interest in the material. All of that will help. Take lots of breaks and don't push too hard or too long. Baby steps will get you there; you don't have to run, even if it is cramming.

Glad what my shrink said helped. I found it helpful as well since I tend to want to be perfect which is just trying to be superhuman instead of accepting that we're all just human.
