Hi everyone,
I'm moving to a new country. I'll start a new school there as well. It's very depressing, because I don't know anyone, and English is not my native language! (I'm moving to an English speaking country). I started thinking about suicide more often, because I don't think anyone would like me, the first day at school is going to be horrible, I think. I couldn't look at anyone, and I'm going to avoid people just like I did in my old school... ![]() Do you guys have any tips on how to fight this fear? I keep thinking that people are disgusted when they speak to me, because I feel so ugly ![]() ![]() |

Hi, Godulyte35, and welcome to Psych Central! I am sure going to a new school in another country can be a scary thing, but it would be best if you try not to focus on the negative. This school will be your chance to start over. You will be able to go to a school counselor, too, if by any chance you get off to a rough start.
Feel free to read and post in any of the forums. Here's one you might find helpful: http://forums.psychcentral.com/steps...r-self-esteem/. Again, welcome! |

Only way to fight this fear is to face it. Notice how you say " I THINK anyone would like me," the first day at school is going to be horrible, I THINK." It's the same as saying "what if..." You really have no idea what your first day of school is going to be like, your just guessing.
You need to face reality. Not EVERYONE is going to like you. Some people will not like you, but most people will love you. Your negative feelings are in a repetitive cycle. Your feelings are going to effect your thoughts, words, actions and how you react can effect how other people react. I'm not sure avoiding everyone is a good idea. Say hi get out there it will make your experience so much more enjoyable. Most importantly your life is worth living. Never ever forget that and if you ever need to talk remember that we are here for you at PC. I know you will make plenty of friends. I wish you the best of luck ![]() |

Don't worry and keep your hopes high. Whilst it is good to be focused on success and failure; most of the times, the outcomes are irrelevant and what matters is the effort and the journey itself. You should make an honest attempt at education and try to enjoy it as much as possible because this is most enjoyable time of your life after childhood... This will take the unnecessary stress off you and you will be able to perform to your potential. Good luck!

It sounds scary of course, but don't be so pessimistic. People usually like having foreigner classmates, it's fun to meet people from other countries, and you will eventually learn how to understand and speak english good enough after 1 year or less, so don't worry much about it. I'm serious.
I would even like to be in your situation. Meeting new cultures is always good and opens your mind. |

Build your confidence as you have a long way to go....go there, study hard and make a place for yourself....do not forget that they are kids like you.. they are no different..
