Does anyone pass classes like this?

I'm wondering if I'm the only one of the few (or many) who don't need a load of tutoring in order to pass classes? Throughout my years of schooling I had barely enough tutoring because I understood the material and I passed classes with an average grade or higher.

Which is why I'm dropping a class (first time...) (AP Physics) because if I don't understand the material even with the book and the teacher's help, what the hell am I supposed to do? Well, if I can't do it, drop that class! My counselor told me that 20-25 juniors drop that class every year because they've made the wrong choice, and I am one of them! ^^

"Why don't you go to tutoring? It's mandatory when you need help and you're going to fail!"

1.) I like to see if I can understand what I've learned before going to the teacher so I don't feel like an idiot.
2.) I'm stubborn and a loner, let's face it x 3x (Low self-esteem talking)

I am pretty smart too and can pass classes with little effort. when I am challenged it easily frustrates me and I want to give up.

I once had a very wise biology teacher who was subbing in my chemistry class in high school point this out to me. I was struggling and whining about it after being a really great student in his class...he pointed out how smart I was and this was the first time he saw me struggle and how much I wanted to give up..she told me that is how a lot of people felt on a regular basis because they aren't as smart as me and don't catch on as easy......

that has always stuck with me.......makes me try harder.......

I can understand dropping it if it is not a required course and it is not past the time that I could get my money back. Some classes are not worth putting yourself through the aggravation, time, and work per credit(s). I would drop it too then.

If, however, it is a required course, I would definitely opt for the tutoring if struggling to get through the material; there is no harm and it can only help. An advisor once suggested for required courses, it is better to stick it out, get exposed to the material because even if the course does not come out the way you want grade-wise, at least you have a chance still of either passing it or you will have been exposed to some of the material and less to have to learn when you retake it.

"The expert in anything was once a beginner"

Your instructor started where you are now (give or take), they started as a beginner. They know teaching stratagems that work. Why not use them, that's what they are there for.

I do acknowledge the fact that stubbornness excites but It's a sign of you changing, growing up, and facing the world.

Believe in yourself. You can do it. Try what they say, and if not then find another and try their way. You can do it!

I would suggest most people have some classes they are interested in and sail through with little effort, but there are other classes that require struggle, hard work, are uninteresting, setbacks keep happening and you just have to work away at it in the hope of slipping over the bar, most people do - perhaps this is the first time you have encountered this. Now you perhaps see how the rest of us get by!

There are some classes that even with tutoring I couldn't get it...chemistry was one of those back in high school. Everything else I am usually quite capable of figuring out myself....& now at the age of 60...some things I look back on & wonder what the problem was as so much seems easier to learn & understand now.

Dealing with the electrical system on my lawn tractor a few weeks ago & trying to learn how to use my mulitmeter in the different situations it was needed for testing was a challenge & I hate learning curves but it seems so much easier to learn & self tutor at this age. I have learned where to ask the questions I need answered & where to go to get the answers sometimes by trial & error....

The one thing I realize is that there are also some things that no matter how much I try to learn & ask I will just not grasp . If that were happening in my major in college I would question myself about my major & just how important the class was going to be in the career & then possibly change majors to something my mind could handle.

Calculus was that problem for me...I never did grasp it no matter how hard I tried or what tutoring I had. I honestly never used it in my career but it ended up limiting my career when the only department with a design position it it was one that programmed ballistics for the project....I didn't take the position because there was no way I could have performed up to the required standards. Sometimes we have to accept our limitations as they truly exist
