I'm in university and soon it will be time for me to talk to a professor about my dissertation. Don't know how it works in USA, but here you have to ask a professor to do the dissertation with him/her, so he gives you a topic (or you decide together) and he 'guides' you through it.
I have a topic that I'd like, and I like also the professor who teaches it. But (as usual :/) I'm anxious...I'm scared at the idea to go and ask her. I'm shy in general and I don't know how to say it, and I've also fear that I won't like the projects that she suggests me...at that point I wouldn't feel like to tell her that I don't want to choose her anymore. I like the topics that she teaches, so probably there is something that I'll like...but I'm however worried, and expecially embarrassed
I'm also already scared at the idea to doing the work, after deciding the topic. I don't know yet the details, but usually it's a quite practical work, like making a sort of intervention with people with a problem, or something similar. I like the idea, but when I really think to do it, interacting with people that I don't know...I'm scared!! But I'll have to do it when I work, so it's only the beginning...I like and fear the idea at the same time
So, focusing on the dissertation: anyone has advices about the problems that I mentioned?
What is sad for me is to think that in general people say that doing their dissertation, about a topic they are interested in, is a beautiful experience...I'd like to enjoy it, and instead for me it could be just a long stressful thing

You shouldn't feel embarrassed about it! I'm sure the professor will listen to your idea, perhaps make a few suggestions if she thinks something needs to be changed. Professors have dealt with a lot of students and you shouldn't feel intimidated.
The task itself may be stressful at first but once you get into it, hopefully it will be an enjoyable experience! You just gotta make the most of it. If you think it's going to suck and be stressful, then it will. Just make sure you get a topic that you're truly interested in.
Good luck!!
