I don't know what to do.
I have just applied through UCAS to universities for English literature. I am predicted A*A*A, and got AAB at AS level, thus I have to get at least AAA to get into any unis I applied for. I have no offers yet, but at this rate, I can't see myself getting AAA. My attendance is at 70%, and I am becoming worse every day. I am finding it so difficult to concentrate, be motivated to work or even get up in the morning. I just came off medication because I felt it was making me less intelligent. I don't know if I can go on with this year, I don't even know if I can cope with university. I can't see myself being better before my exams or before next year when I start a really intense course. I have also applied to do art foundation, which would be less stressful, but I'd feel like a failure - I am an academic, high standards etc. I don't even know if I'll get in, I'm better at English than Art. Although I think they would be more complacent if I dropped out of the rest of this year. Please help. I could go through this year and come out with ABB or something but I'd be upset with that for the rest of my life. Thanks guys. |

What is AAA? You can do an awful lot with an English Literature degree. I wish I went that route instead of engineering. I dropped out a semester as well (at PSU) due to mood disorder, breakdown. A big university was way too much for me.

It is great to have goals and dreams but maybe the pressure you are putting on yourself is too much and is actually causing your grades to suffer. All I can say is do your best and let the rest go as best you can. Things have a way of working out the way they are meant to.

How were you doing when you were taking meds? (vs how you perceived yourself)...

You may feel like you'd be upset for the rest of your life.
But in the bigger realm of things, considering how long we live for, this is a drop in the ocean and one moment in your life. Don't beat yourself up over this. Not sure how your system works over there. Any chance you can request a years suspension due to medical reasons to do a fresh start the following year when you're hopefully more stable? |
