Hello,
I'm 28 years old and got my BA in Psychology almost 2 years ago. Since then I have been searching for a job in my field and no luck. I've been working part time and volunteer once a week. I've been diagnosed with GAD and also have a thyroid condition (Hypothyroidism). Ever since I was in high school, I've always wanted to be a counselor, but in the last year I've lost all motivation and passion. I've been going back and forth about going back to school to become a Marriage Family Therapist, but I'm so afraid of failing that I keep putting it off... There have just been so many negative experiences and rejections since I received my Bachelor's degree that I can't seem to find that passion for life again. I also have a hard time making big decisions and always second guess myself. Anyone have any suggestions? |

I may be wrong but it seems like perhaps the lack of motivation may also be due to the fact that you haven't had much luck in finding a job in your field. Which is very common, don't let that bring you down be proud that you achieved a degree to begin with.
I think it's cool that you're volunteering and keeping yourself active. I would do the same, try to volunteer for something similar or related to counseling if it's possible. And if you're able to go back to school for your masters in Psychology (which will open up many more opportunities or Marriage/Family therapy then even better! It may increase your chances of finding a job in the field. I would say, continue trying to find a job in the Psychology field with your BA that can help you move forward. Or go back to school for something specific in psychology, like you mentioned therapy/counseling. Your degree is not useless, just have to find the right opportunity and it's there don't give up on yourself ![]() |
