I got a Neuropsychological evaluation done which is good for five years. They gave me the accommodations like note taker, extra time, quiet room, and tape recorder. I had a lot of problems trying to get accommodations from my high school. Even though it's not related I don't trust the disability department at my community college. One of the people said to me that I don't have to agree with him on some of the accommodations. I'm thinking that I need additional stuff as well and don't know what that is exactly. They've also wanted me to ask the group that I work with if I need additional evaluations. They said that it's appropriate with what the Neuropsychological evaluation told them. I tend to disagree. What should I do? Should I also get a Psychoeducational evaluation if the group I'm with agree with that? What else can be done?
I just don't like the tape recorder idea since other students voices would be on there. I would only want the professors voice. The note taker is good if you can find a responsible person to do it. Extra time I haven't really used a lot. The quiet room isn't bad and you just sit in there. It's supposed to help you with less distractions and noise. Also I had IEPs at the cyber school and many other IEPs at my high school. The ones that were done at my high school weren't good. I never had a section 504. They really never asked me to give them anything from high school or anything like that. I was also a special education student in high school. I was in it until I graduated. I'm thinking it's a learning disability. I've also heard about Dyscalculia which is a math disability. I just think that there also wasn't enough explanation from the neuropsychological evaluation. So I really don't know what is wrong with me or anything. I don't know if I have a specific learning disability or not. The people from the school keep telling me to go to my group and ask them if I need anything additional. They keep saying for my Psychiatrist to explain it to me or the psychologist that did it. The psychologist that did it doesn't work at the place that I got it done. What do I want? Just to know if I need anything additional to the Neuropsychological evaluation. So I can give it to the disability department and get further accommodations/modifications. I also know there is no special education in community college. I'm also on a number of medications and I see the group for my mental health problems. I don't trust the disability department and I think they need to help me more. What should I do? Thanks |

It just feels like they aren't helping me the way they should be. I tend to think that I should have better accommodations. I'm not sure of what type of accommodation. I've also explained my diagnosis to them. They're going by the Neuropsychological evaluation. I think there needs to be additional testing or a different type of evaluation done.
I also have floaters in my eyes and it comes and goes. I can see okay. I would just say that I want to figure out all of the types of evaluations. From there get the appropriate one done. One that will better help the disability department to help me better than what I'm getting. Thanks |

Legally is there anything that should be done to see if they're appropriately accommodating me or not?
They said to ask my group that I'm with to see if I need an additional evaluation or not. |

What do you want the school to do for you? It sounds like they are giving you a lot of tools that might make learning easier for you, but if you have some specific idea about what is missing, it wouldn't hurt to ask for that as an accommodation as well.
Having other student's voices on the recording is probably unavoidable. In some classes, the discussion between students is actually more important than the lecture. Are there any study groups or tutoring on campus? Perhaps you could talk to the professor or some of your fellow students about forming a study group? Do you know how you learn best? |

There isn't a study group. There's two math places at the campus. One is for tutoring and the other is to stop in for. There both tutoring but the other one is for one on one. I'm pretty sure if I talked to other students we could make a study group. I like the one on one tutoring though. There might be a study group that I don't know about.

Is there a way to get a brain scan for a learning disability or other learning problems? Or is it better that they just evaluate the person?
I'm also wondering if I have a specific learning disability. The school will not explain why I have those accommodations. They just won't and I'm wondering what I have exactly wrong with me. |
