I'm in a math class right now as a prerequisite for another prerequisite for grad school. It'll be my last prerequisite before I can apply. But I have a 70%. 1 percentage point from failing, and all that's left is the final which is worth 25% of my grade. I've gotten Ds on the last two midterms and I just don't have any confidence right now. The final is cumulative so I have to know the stuff that I did poorly on before. I've been studying like crazy, and I mean crazy. Like all day and all night and trying to go to the math lab for tutoring, and I'm meeting with my professor on Tuesday to go over my tests, but I still just feel awful all of the time. I can't sleep anymore even with meds. I just don't want to fail and get set back another year or two in my grad school plans. Plus I work full time so that complicates things even further.

I don't know what you are planning to study in grad school but if there are math prerequisites and you are having difficulties and being stressed now, before you even start grad school, then you may want to rethink what you want to study as I don't think the math requirements will get any easier?

I assume if prerequisites for your grad school have math in them then you do need math in grad school. If you already struggle then you might want to look into something else? I don't want to sound unkind but if you have d on math exams you should not pursue a degree if math is part of it. What is your degree going to be?

It sounds like you're working hard to learn the stuff that you didn't do well on before.

As far as what other people said about maybe rethinking your grad school plans if you have problems with math, only you know if you have an aptitude problem with higher math or if the low grades are because of not keeping up in class and doing problem sets and studying regularly.

I've been in that spot before, where I had to make a good grade on the final to pass the class. It's a huge amount of stress, but it can be done. Best of luck to you!

It's advanced algebra. It should be easy but I'm dyslexic and have dyscalculia. Math has nothing to do with my graduate degree. I want to be an Occupational Therapist. I just have to take math to take statistics, which is a prerequisite for the degree.

I met with my professor and went over all of my tests with him and that helped a lot. Then I went over all of my homework again (I've done every single assignment), and I've made page after page of note sheets and I thought it was helping. But then the professor gave us a practice exam to work on and I can barely get half of the answers on it. The questions on the practice exam are just 10x harder than the questions in the book. He hasn't taught us how to do those kinds of problems. Now I'm back to feeling completely hopeless again. I'm meeting with him again on Monday to go over the practice exam and I requested a day off on Tuesday to study and get a good night's sleep for the final on Wednesday, but I'm still just not feelin' it.

I studied for 28 hours on the weekend before the final and I must have gotten an A on the final because I got a B in the class! Woohoo!!!!! Now I can stay on track for getting into grad school. I'm so happy!

Thanks!! If only I had the capacity to be happy about it. I'm relieved and thankful, but definitely not happy. I'm in a weird mood state.

Because you are bipolar you want to be careful with lack of sleep, as that could indicate you are becoming unwell?

You are on a LOT of medications, are any of them new, maybe causing some problems?

Stress like an exam can certainly aggregate mental health conditions.

Above all: Look after yourself.

The wellbutrin is pretty new and I just had the dose increased, so that could be contributing to the lack of sleep and I've been having some other manic-like symptoms sporadically, but overall I feel pretty much mixed right now, kind of depressed, kind of manic, and kind of just weird and agitated/unsettled. I'll see my psychiatrist on Friday. I've been sleeping a little better since I got my grades though. Getting at least SOME sleep almost every night.
