As mentioned in a previous post, I'm doing a technology degree. For a time there, though, I was very tempted to do communications. I find it interesting, and I pretty much aced the mandatory class.
Anyway, does anyone else here struggle with what you WANT to do and what will get you a job? I keep going back and forth. I love technology, sure, but communications is...alluring. I've never once seen a job that requires a communications degree, though. So, guess what I'm asking is, when you guys feel like this, what do you do? Find a middle ground (like doing a double major, or a minor) or just...find an alternative? |

My cousin did a double major to resolve the conflict.
Choosing a Minor can also resolve that. My cousin loves music and being a musician, yet technology pays the bills quite well. He's completed some side teaching work and is sometimes still part of a jazz band. |

It is definitely a tricky balance - ultimately you need to be happy with what you do but the bills always come too!
Most people I have spoken to about this kind of thing try to compromise by doing something they are still interested in but will pay the bills and then minor in their other real interests. After finishing college they can often then also find either social groups / volunteering or even paid work that allows them to do both and still pay the bills. |
