I started college in fall 2012, majoring in graphic design (that's what happens when you have no idea what you want). The stress from school, coupled with everything else I had experienced in my life and kept bottled up, was too much, and I had a mental snap. Ended up in the hospital on suicide watch. Dropped out. Fast forward to now: I know what I want! I'm majoring in psychology, so that I can help find the causes and cures for mental illnesses due to personal experience, and to help people that are struggling with mental illness. Yes! Perfect!
BUT The stress is taking its toll again, and once more, there are other extreme factors in my life that are teaming up with the stress from school and I'm once again teetering on the edge of a mental break. Something that will help is moving away from where I currently am, which, of course, I cannot do in the middle of the semester. Oh, and of course there are NO schools in the state I'm moving to that offer a psychology program (well, there is one.. But it's a Christian school that requires Christian classes and I am very much agnostic, and can't afford that school anyway). What do I do? I CANNOT stay here to finish out my degree, and I can't move to any other state but my intended for several reasons. Does anybody have any advice? I don't know what to do ![]() |

If you have any counselors at your school, you can talk to them about the problems you've been having and both of you can discuss any options that you can take.

Many schools offer distance online courses that maybe you can take towards your major. Maybe consider a bit of a break to rejuvenate and recharge for a while. I know that is risky considering it's hard to back after leaving for any amount of time, but maybe it's what will work for you.
I know how it feels, I'm going on my fifth year of college and I have lost count of how many breakdowns I have endured up to this point, a few I will never forget. I'm also an accounting major, so I was asking for more stress I suppose lol. Feel free to message me if you need more advice, or just someone to listen. |
