I am the parent of a high school student with ADHD. He has struggled mightily for his whole school career. He is now in a private, special purpose school that we have developed. I am interested in the experiences students and families have had in dealing with school systems.

My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was in first grade. He is in public school, now in 7th grade. The school evaluates him every year for any special needs they have to give him because of the ADHD. His case is mild. They are supposed to sit him in the front of the class and give him extra time to complete tests if he needs it.
He's doing fine in school. I'd say he is surprisingly responsible about getting his homework done and remembering his responsibilities. He likes school, but only gives the minimum effort to his school work- but that's OK with me. I encourage him, but don't push him. |

My middle son had ADHD and several other issues and was served through special education services. He received amazing support along the way through the school.

Getting the right kind of attention and support will definitely help him get over his ADHD symptoms.
