Missing Out

It's not a problem most people have but I feel like I am going through university too quickly. I'm getting my bachelors degree in Homeland Sec. after just 2 years of college. I'll graduate before I even reach the legal drinking age and I can't help but feel like Im not really getting any kind of college experience. I just don't really have the time in college to meet too many people, to go to parties, hang around others. My parents met loads of people in college including each other, they had lots of friends, lots of memories, Im not really getting anything close to that. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice? And outside of college what's a good way to meet people outside just the work place?

"The college experience" is overrated and not like it used to be. I think its amazing you will graduate so soon. Are you considering grad school?

My degree was like that too because students were all combining part-time jobs with studying. Ways to meet people are: meetup.com; film clubs; book clubs; football; Facebook groups for your area; walking trips; stamp collecting; (sorry it's sunday, joking); philosophical discussions; helping feed the homeless; learning languages; saving the planet; volunteering. I don't know your interests.

Through lack of money and previous experience and braininess (blushes) I did my 3 year honours degree in 2 years (a nightmare) then did a short computing course and landed a job mending databases.

Life works out if you use well the opportunities and contacts that come up for you , but it's normal to worry! Your parents seem to have had an easier life, but we are still lucky to have peace/ food/ shelter all taken for granted.

I am considering grad school, however, it is unlikely that I go through with it. It isn't necessary for me and I'd rather just save my remaining college funds for if I have a kid in the future.

Also Saidso those are really good suggestions, I will keep them in mind and I do think they solve a bit of my problem.

I've no experience with the "college experience" and have never had friends in college. I've been in college for 6 years. You aren't your parents and this isn't their generation. University is a watered down, streamlined, and fairly dehumanized from what they experienced - technology has altered out of the cliches of your parent's time. Just go out and find friends in your community.

Go to a rec center or a church or a find another kind of hobby, or simply meet people where you find them to get friends. Remember also, that age doesn't matter when it comes to adult friendships. My best friend is 13 years older than I am, but I also have friends 10 years younger than me.

Honestly, I got more of the "college experience" from joining a Church, lol. Nothing debaucherous, but plenty of drinking with trustworthy companions.
