I can't believe it's almost here, but I start back to school next Tues. I'm pretty happy with my schedule, it's 3 on-line courses, 3 in person courses and I only have classes Mon., Tues., and Wed. so I'm able to keep working at both my part time jobs.

I am a bit nervous about starting, since it's a long time since I've done anything academic but I'm also really excited.

I have an appointment Sept. 15 with student accessibility services to learn what disability accommodations might be available help me.

Cool. But 6 classes sounds like a lot. There’s 3-4 hours of study for each class. Good luck.

I didn't learn how to study until relatively late in life. I don't remember being taught how to study in Catholic grade school and public high school. I'm not sure I ever took a book home. Most of the homework assignments I copied from someone else prior to class.
Neither of my parents had a high school education. I was actually a fairly bright kid. They told me my IQ was 147 in 4th grade. I had a lack of motivation because I knew college was out of the question. I took a PSAT? in the 10th grade which would enable to attend
just about any college of my choice. Certainly either of the two state colleges in my home state. When it came time to make a decision about college, my dad punched me in the face and kicked out of the house. Told me he would never spend a penny on my education.
I felt vindicated because I suspected that was what would happen. But 8 years later I found myself out of work and wishing I had applied myself so I went to a vocational school and graduated at the top of my class and we all lived happily ever after. Oh, I also aced 4 levels
of college calculus and a couple of 300 level math classes and the head of my math department said I could complete my degree from home if I chose to. My high school trig teacher would have been proud of me, after telling me he might have to fail me when I was an
unmotivated high school senior.
