(((ZEN)))so exciting with u going back to school.i think it's good u are considering time spent but i think it's really improtant that you major in what you'd like to spend your time doing after graduation. i'd do a list...famous for my lists, heheh...and write down the pros and cons of each major including the amount of schooling they require. after doing the list it may crytalize your thoughts more. i know for me it helps to put it down on paper so i can see it. hope this helps and let us know what you decide!!!

i think you need a good talk with a capable person in academic counseling/planning, to assess what fits you best. it really is important to look at what will be fulfilling to you over what will take the shortest time.

Going back to school is awesome, that is what I am doing! The thing about the BA in psychology, it really doesn't open up a lot of door for a job if that is what you want. You almost need a masters to get any decent job in that field. Good luck!
Thanks for this!

Good luck! I'm hoping to do the same soon, but I am looking at it from a much longer barrel (52 as opposed to your 33 years).

There might be a way to combine both of your interests. Many school districts now use mental health professionals in the counselling/advising positions. You would probably need at least an MS though. There are many 4+1 programs though now, which only take one more year for your masters.

Online education is also starting to come into its own. It has been around for a long time but I think the quality of the classes has started to be address (YMMV).

If you are considering education, be sure to mark your FAFSA as such. You should be contacted them regarding financial programs available should you choose education.

Hi Zen!

We are never too old for college! I finished my Masters when I was 35 and my friend just finished his PhD at 59 yrs old!

I think the most important thing to consider is what will make you happy in the long run?

I am sorry I don't have time to write a long reply right now. Good Luck!

I just got my second BA online at the University of Maryland University College when I was 56 at http://www.umuc.edu and they have lots of creative ways to finance, etc. Wholly accredited, etc.

I've also taken (less expensive) computer courses through the O'Reilly School of Technology, the people who write all the "good" technical manuals?

I was taking their courses to get a University of Illinois Web Programming Certificate:

I'm 20 and Ive been out of high school for over 2 years.. I cant afford college right now so I worry that it's going to be too late if I don't go now. I guess it's never too late. Thanks, this post makes me feel better and more optimistic.

I went back and got my BS in Education and MS in Literacy. I was 53 by the time I finished! Working in Special Education is very rewarding but also extremely demanding, and doesn't pay well. I think you should do the psychology program. It pays better.
