Why do we have to take statistics for psychology and why does it have to be so confusing? I love math subjects, but this had been the most frustrating. I worked on getting the homework done with all the calculations and got a 90, but with those same calculations on the test I got a 76.
Being a student in distance learning I don't have the advantage of the classroom. Is there a better way to go about studying and understanding stats with t-scores, deviation errors, null hypothesis and oh yea, SPSS?? ![]() ![]() ![]()

*shudders* I hated stats... it's too bad that you're doing long distance education, because I found that with a GOOD prof and being in the classroom, that I did at least decently. Can you find a tutor or someone else who can help you out?

You have to take stats for psychology because... there is a lot of stats in psychology and you need to know how to interpret them and use them yourself.

Yes... stats isn't exactly my favourite course either, but it REALLY helps when you have to read journal articles and actually understand what they're talking about in their results sections! it is too bad you're taking it DE... I actually had a really good experience with my stats prof/class, and though at the time i wasn't too thrilled about having to take math in an arts program, it actually is really important.
and yes Kim, lol SPSS... ahh! That program was so confusing at first! ![]()

Statistics is a great help in psychology because for some you'll need to interpret some collective datas. yeah of course a great prof will greatly help you to decrease your doubts and questions.

![]() ![]() ![]() Not only do you need statistics to interpret what the data is telling you, but equally as important, what it doesn't tell you. Math is awesome....people lie, but numbers are always honest... unless you have people like bankers & stock brokers who lie about the numbers...grrrrr!!!! Even then though, if you understand, the numbers & data are represented you can flush out the situations where the numbers aren't adding up the way they appear.... if there is a God, his/her language is MATH ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Math was my favorite in school. I aced Geometry, even on the final i made a 100. Trig and analysis was awesome too. But true, not having the prof there or a tutor there to break things down a bit more in person is hard. I have had to read a section over and over and listen to lessons over and over until I can get at least a little bit more out of it.
And I'm not sure it stats help to "prove" anything, but they can be used to support (or manipulate) anything. ![]() thanks all, stay golden always

without understanding stats, you can't really undrstand when they are being manipulated either ![]() |
