I started a gratitude journal about a week ago... I've managed to keep it up every day so far. Each day, I'm writing down a few things that I'm grateful for, and then at the end of each week, I'll read out loud what I've written. So far, it has been a nice way to refocus myself before I go to bed. Late evening is probably my most difficult time in terms of my mood, and I'm finding that this is a helpful way to break out of some of my habitual negative thought spirals.

Incidentally, I was happy to stumble upon this forum today. I usually post in the depression forum as that is my main issue. I sometimes feel frustrated that so many of the posts there are people expressing the pain that they are feeling, but without a corresponding emphasis on what concrete steps we can take/are taking to heal from this illness. It isn't that I think it isn't important for people to express what they are feeling... but more that it isn't always helpful for me to read post after post about how suicidal people are feeling. I was glad to see that this forum exists as well. Thanks!

I have a tiny little page a day calendar where I do this- just one or two things a day, and it really helps on rotten days to be able to look back and remember silly little stuff from weeks or even months back!
Thanks for this!

Hi GGal,

I am thinking of trying this too. My difficult time is the morning. I was just sitting here with a little cloud over my head. But it helped to read your post on how your journal was helping you. Thanks...

E.

Thank you for beginning this thread, garden gal. I have started a gratitude journal. But never seem to stick with it. I would be glad to contribute to this thread...... and of course begin a gratitude journal again. I try to stay in the threads where the emphasis is on trying to do things that are productive. Believe me, I have my depression issues. More than my share. But I need the producitve actions. And i have great challenge self motivating. Thanks again <3<3<3

I started a journal like this also. What I also found helpful was to write down things I accomplish each day. Even the little things like..organizing my room make such a difference. Sometimes we don't realise how much we do in one day. Thanks for this thread

Today I am grateful for a husband who loves me and supports me and has lived with MI for 23 years.
