Not sure where to put this so, moderators, feel free to move it to where you feel fit if necessary.
Does anyone have the problem with falling asleep at work? I dont have a strenuous job, its mostly just paper pushing and I find myself falling asleep at work no matter how much caffeine I consume. It gets hard to focus on said tasks and this would happen before I started taking all my medications. If it helps heres a list of meds I take currently: Nucynta 100mg Valium 5mg Amitriptyline (at night) 25mg Meloxicam 7.5mg Fioricet (weird dose but its a barbiturate) Methocarbamol 750mg Ambien (at night) 5mg Cefadroxil 500mg Like I said, this would happen before all the meds I was taking and I could drink a couple of energy drinks or a crap ton of coffee and just fall to sleep in just about any spot. It hasn't got me in trouble at work-yet and I try my damnedest to fight it by doing things like pacing and stretches and exercises (before I hurt my back). It would work ok until I sat back down and got back to work. My question is, how do others deal with this ( I know I cant be the only one)? I have even gone so far as to try things like No-Doze and other similar products. I also do this at home, at random. Now with all the meds I am on, this is just multiplied exponentially. Thanks! Cheers! Edit: I work day shift. Last edited by mikedudley17; Sep 24, 2011 at 07:16 PM. |

As long as you aren't a bus driver or railroad engineer, I don't see any problem. The world would probably be a better place if everyone took a little siesta on the job now and then. I had a day job where I'd feel like dozing off, but don't think I ever actually fell totally asleep, just half asleep with my lids nearly closed. Usually a phone would ring from headquarters and snap me out of it. You need to get phone calls. My own problem with unwelcome dozing is at home while I'm reading or studying. Either activity tends to knock me out cold.

Have you had a sleep study done? My dad has sleep apnea and this happens to him quite a bit. Also there is narcolepsy. I work 3rds and how I stay awake is LOTS of water. If you constantly have to pee you aren't falling asleep

If you're taking Ambien, I take it you don't/haven't ever slept well at night? Not getting enough/good sleep during the night will definitely mess up your daytime, that and having a boring-sounding job; doesn't sound like you are very interested in it so there's nothing there to keep you awake?
I'd go with having a sleep study done; you could have sleep apnea or something that needs addressing so you can sleep when it is time to sleep and be awake when you want to be awake.

Oh my... I do the exact same thing at work. My work involves a lot of standing (I'm a part time usher at a theatre) and... well it's just really embarrassing when a patron has to wake you up cuz you've fallen asleep standing up.
Do you have a tendency to fall asleep everywhere? I don't know, but I have never had an issue falling asleep, and I fall asleep almost everywhere, especially in moving cars/subways. The only advice I can offer you is, since caffeine doesn't work, cut back on it and maybe THAT could help, or just fight through it. And enjoy the trippy dreams that come with constantly living half passed out. |

I agree with the other posters and you should have a sleep study done.
on a more simple level: can you listen to a radio at work or headphones? I find that listening to talk radio keeps me thinking on a second level (I know that may sound a little odd) and keeps me awake. I used to listen to political talk radio but for the past couple years I've switched to the fluffy, gossipy talk radio. either one keeps me alert while I'm doing my desk work. good luck! |
