background info:
I've struggled with depression/anxiety since childhood. I am also a night person and not a morning/daytime person. This equals insomnia at night and hypersomnia during the day. ******************************* Conclusion: I have a very difficult time waking up in the morning, or even getting out of bed at all no matter how much sleep I get. If I could, I'd stay in bed until 2pm everyday. (Which means that if I went to bed at 10pm the night before, I'd be getting 16 hours of sleep!) Help! This is wasting my days and makes me feel like such a failure! ![]() Thanks for your help!! |

I have had a lot of trouble with that too at times. The best thing I did was force myself to get up, even when I didn't want to. It doesn't always work when I am extremely stressed, but I try to get up by 8am, even when I haven't slept much - setting 2 alarms 10 minutes apart and then getting someone else to come in 10 minutes after that if I'm still not up to force me up. Setting appointments early also gave me the motivation as I didn't want to miss them.
It was hell for a few weeks as I was so tired but eventually my body began to get into the habit of getting up then so I would already be semi-awake by 8am. It also meant that I was tired earlier so could get to sleep before 5am. Also, have you talked to your doctor about it? There could be a physical reason as to why you are tired all the time. Hope you can work out something. |

Thanks so much! It is so great to hear that you overcame this because it makes me believe that I can too.
I'm a light sleeper and a night person. And when it's early, it's as though a different personality takes over me-- one who ignores alarm clocks and doesn't mind skipping class. I feel like if I were to get to bed around 9am, I'd have a better time getting up in the morning. Again, thanks for your comment, it's made me feel much better about this. |

I've been to the doctors a few times, had tests done-- even went to an allergist. They eventually say it's depression or CFS. Nothing physical behind it. I think people like us are just really, really night people. There's something delayed circadian rhythm disorder, I think.
