Does anyone "use" quotations to encourage or keep one's self focused? I just had a fun experience; back 30+ years ago I came across a quote from French Field Marshal (WWI) Ferdinand Foch which I absolutely love:
"My center is giving way, my right is in retreat; situation excellent. I shall attack." However, today I had to write up something in my 20th Century European History course about the "Battle of the Marne" at the beginning of WWI where the Germans were stopped and the horrible trench warfare began and I learned there were two Battles of the Marne; one near the end of the War too where the Germans gave one last try at breaking the French/English/US line and winning the War but were unsuccessful largely because "my" General, Foch, said what he said and even managed to repel the Germans, not just hold the line. I'm not into "war" but it was nice to find the place the quote fits in history and in addition to helping me personally, the quote will help me with the history course :-) But the ckick-in-place/a-ha moment was very pleasant.

Hi Perna -- I used to use quotations to motivate myself and keep myself focused.
I also find that when a book inspires me or is helping to keep me together that I simply write long passages out of it.
