do any of you know this book, or try to follow its principles? I guess there are other books like it.

Intuitive Eating? I have never heard of it. What's it about (I mean, I get that it's about eating, but...)

yeah, it's basically instructions for if you can't stand the idea of dieting anymore, or getting all upset at the scale or counting calories or all that, but you don't know how to stop. it talks about how hunger is really psychologically damaging, as well as the metabolically damaging as we all know. basically if you give yourself true permission to eat whatever you want, "forbidden foods" lose their specialness.

i guess probably most people have heard all that before, but in my experience the whole "stop dieting 4-eva!!" thing you sometimes see in women's magazines is usually just another kind of diet, and this isn't. i'm don't really do self-help books but i really think this is helpful to people. it's a much more normal way of living.

amazon link, you can read an excerpt. the comments do a pretty good job of summarizing too.

i've been obsessively dieting my whole life and i just got really sick of it, especially after i did a stint on weight watchers, two years ago, and was constantly starving for two months.

I belong to http://www.sparkpeople.com (it's free) and that's about changing one's lifestyle (instead of dieting) and it is working well for me. It sounds similar to some of what your book is about. But they focus on nutrition and not starving, etc. and give you tools and community and education to work with. They were voted #1 health site by Business Week the last 3 years in a row. I've lost over 40 pounds since May, only about another 80 to go :-)
