I Had stitches last night and before i was crying and rocking backwards and forwards on my dads bed just staring into space i looked like i had lost it..
Then i dont even remember all of cutting my arm but after i felt a sudden rush of happiness and like all my pain had gone away ??
When i was in hospital after having stitches i felt like i could do anything like because i had the stitches i was invinsibible...!!

When i go clothes shopping and get lots of new clothes i get the same Happy feeling from deep self harm..it has to be deep or the feeling does not come.

What could this be?

Lydia, SI and shopping addiction are both addictions. Both behaviors and all the other addictions release dopamine which improves your mood. Your mood is poor to begin with because you haven't learned how to manage your feelings. So, therefore, you reach for an addiction to improve your mood. A healthier way would be to learn how to deal with your feelings in therapy and then your mood will improve and you won't need these addictions to feel better.
