im new here but have already realised that the SI forum focuses mainly on cutting. i started cutting myself seven years ago, its not my main outlet, that would be food control but more recently i have felt the urge to re-start SI again, i no longer cut anywhere other than my thighs, back, sides and stomach, my arms have suffered more burns than cuts in the last year as theyre easier to explain at work and also i feel its more effective, but the reason im here is to ask on advice on how to numb the urge to salf harm in safer less obvious ways?
i would love to know of other peoples experiences with burning as its much less talked about than cutting but much more used by me.

I would suggest looking at the posts at the top of the forum - it gives (at least I think, and hope) a lot of what you are seeking on how to "numb" the urge, or urge surf. I know it gives many other alternatives other than harming the body.

W2BTN,

Well, thankfully the forum itself, or rather, this particular area of the forum, focuses on self infliction, in general. There is no specific focus of SI that I'm aware of. It's the people here that more commonly appear to have issues with that form of SI, myself included. I suppose more people tend to commonly associate self infliction with 'cutting'; I'm not a fan of that term, TBH. Before this site, I was more aware of the alternate acronym SH, which means self-harm. Both of these lables essentially, by definiton and this context, mean the same thing.

I say this for the simple reason that nobody should feel weird or out-of-place for desiring support for a form of SI that people here may be unfamiliar with. For example, a form of SI for me, is to workout too much, too hard, pulling muscles perhaps and generally wrecking myself. I've only just recently accepted that, regardless of the how unique it appears to be within this area of the forum. If you have problems with any form of SI, then this should be the sort of place you can go.

Regards,
Akuma

Exactly - this is for all forms of self infliction. and there are many. My worst form is cutting, but I also pull hair occasionally, bite the insides of my mouth often until they bleed, binge eat and drink, force myself to stay cold and not turn on the heat, force myself not to sleep... those are more unique - but it is anything that is used in a punishing sort of way that is harmful.
