Hello, looking for peoples experiences with telling their mental health dr/therapist that they had cut themselves. IE did their dr freak out, call the authorities and then hospitalized on the psych ward? Am I over reacting/thinking worst case scenario.

No my T did not freak out or threaten hospitalization. This is the wrong thing to do therapeutically for someone who cuts. And, the psych ward will REFUSE to do involuntary hospitalization for someone who cut themselves, unless the cutting is potentially lethal or is intended to be a suicidal gesture. I think you are thinking worst case scenario here. Of the three mental health professionals that I've told about cutting, none have threatened to put me in the hospital. One freaked out a little bit, and of course, all of them are concerned when you tell them, but in general there haven't been consequences for telling.

You are likely over reacting. Self harm is generally a coping method and isn't a suicidal attempt and therefore I don't believe, in general, needs hospitalisation (unless as Jexa says it is life threatening). Neither my dr or therapist has freaked out when I told them I self harm....in fact they hardly cared at all...my therapist, well she was kinda and understood why, and my GP, well as long as i'm not suicidal they don't overly care...

sorry i don't mean to sound cynical but to ensure you that your thinking, unless entirely extreme, won't be unusual to health professionals and they will very unlikely put you in a psych ward.
