I've been wondering for about a year whether something is considered SI or substance abuse. I decided to post this now instead of sooner because I didn't want to trigger myself too much, but I haven't SI'd (or done what my question is about) in a little over 2 months and think I can post this now and not trigger myself too badly.
....and if I'm wrong, well I guess I'll be in support chat later lol....

So, back to the main question. I would sometimes take about 10-12 benadryl, basically enough to make me feel...weird (not feel good, but it was a better feeling than the depression that led me to do this) and hallucinate. When I did this, especially the first time(s), it was to escape. The first time I honestly didn't care if it killed me. I wasn't trying to overdose as an SI method. Technically I was overdosing, but that wasn't the specific intention. I wanted an escape, to get high if I could.

So my question is: is this considered SI, substance abuse, both, or neither?
Thanks for any replies

hmm....interesting question. I am leaning more towards substance abuse as you said that you were doing it to get high and not to hurt yourself, That is my opinion. Hope you are doing well and didn't trigger yourself. Take care.
Thanks for this!

I think it could be considered both.

Both are considered addictions and addictions help a person to deal with their emotions.

Thanks for the replies
I managed not to trigger myself too much. Everyone's replies in addition to just typing it out helped me figure this out a little. I'm leaning more towards substance abuse, but still really not sure. I overthink things don't I?
Again thanks for the replies
Thanks for this!
