About an hour ago, I cut again. I hadn't cut for 5 months, then about a month or so ago, I started again. Now I have done it probably ten times in a month (only twice that my therapist knows about). So back to tonight - was feeling horribly anxious and uptight. I cut myself and just watched the blood run,and I sttill really don't feel bad about cutting. How do I stop when I feel better after I cut?

Excellent question. Your SI helps you cope. Are you working on your feelings in T so that eventually you won't need to cope anymore?

Yes, I am working with my T, but I keep going backwards after a couple good weeks

Maybe it is 2 steps forward, 1 step back, which is still moving forward?
Also, when a person first starts out to heal they have a lot of bad stuff going on and when they start their work they start to turn things around a little at a time. So they have a good day then they turn around and face the other stuff in their life that isn't so good and they then think that they are falling back. This isn't really falling back. This is facing what still needs to be fixed. There are no magic bullets out there that flip everything into good. Getting better is gradual work.

Hey Hun. You are taking all the right steps. Working with a therapist, learning new coping strategies, but this took time to manifest and it is going to take even more time to resolve. Take it one day at a time. You will have good days and bad days but the bad days don't mean you fail. They just show you you still have more work, but I am sure you already realize that. Don't focus so much on the fact that you slipped, acknowledge and and move on. Work on finding other coping strategies that make you feel good that are not destructive like running or painting or something. The only thing I would talk you is to tell your therapist that you are cutting and when you do. If the course of therapy needs to be changed then they can only know that with all the information. Keep up the good work, it is hard but you are doing it! Best of luck
