I don't know if I can stop - when I get really upset and depressed, and feeling like an utter failure, I sometimes turn to hitting myself, and lately it's been really bad. I know it hurts my boyfriend to see me do it, and he just gets so frustrated because he wants to be able to help but he doesn't know how.

Well, last night I woke up to find him looking at me... we got to talking, he was so angry that I'd hit myself earlier, and he told me that he feels like he might need to break up if I keep doing it. I don't know what to do, I don't know that I *can* stop... I'm really scared of losing him... in almost 4 years together, we've never had to contemplate breaking up!

Hugs i know what you mean, are you getting help for the things that set off these episodes?
Ask him to be patient with you and say yuo will try your hardest and if not already you will seek help. xxx
Thanks for this!

are you in therapy to deal with your self injury? Seeking some sort of psychological help would show that you're serious about wanting to stop. I know it's hard though and not fair for your boyfriend to manipulate the situation by threatening to leave.

I do not know maybe you need another therapist. You can ask about help your boyfriend to look for a good therapist.

That is good! It does take a while for therapy to do anything noticeably positive depending on the type of therapy you're in. Do you think it is helping you? If it isn't, dont be afraid to seek more or different help.

Yeah, I think it's been helping somewhat. I only have one more session (the program is free, but time-limited) though, so I'll have to find a new one soon. Also next month I'll start seeing a pdoc.
Thanks for this!
