I want to cut more than ever when someone insults me. Say I post something here or on Facebook or wherever. If someone retaliates, that makes me want to hurt myself. Usually it's a person I don't know. In real life, if someone teases me or bullies me or what, I want to cut.

Is anyone else triggered by this sort of thing? I don't usually have overwhelming urges, but the ones I do are worse than usual when something like this happens.

When people yell at me... I want to cut.
I think it's an automatic response to anger... among other things...
Then again, I want to cut sometimes just to feel...
*hugs aplenty cutie*

I think it's a response to feeling like I can't express myself - like I can't debate or argue with these people and get my point across strongly.

I have one trigger like that too- the sound of crying. It drives me absolutely crazy and it makes me want to cut almost every time.

I guess it's just the feeling of not being able to handle the situation.

Did this happen to you a lot in the past IRL?

It is, you're right. I wouldn't have considered that - thanks for bringing this up.

Did the feeling of loss of control over a situation happen? I think so...I tend to chalk everything up to this, but when I was in fifth grade I had experiences with bullying that left me terrified of school and of it happening again. I guess this stuck with me through the years, because for a long time and even still now, whenever I hear someone at school talk about me behind my back, it makes me want to give up and SI. This used to happen more often, but it's still there, under the surface.

Maybe you are getting triggered when this happens and your feelings from 5th grade came back with a wham?

Maybe...it continued to happen after 5th grade too, but I'm not sure how much it still bothers me. If someone at school were to say things, I know it would, but those past instances don't really bother me as much as they used to.
