I found a lot of alternatives that work for me when I'm trying not to si. mostly going for a run or just letting myself cry depending on whether the emotion is anger or sadness. But here is the thing: something happened yesterday that has really upset me. I'm trying not to cry because I literally have no privacy....my life is work, class, then home to a studio apartment with a roommate. I just keep tearing up and then trying to hold it in but it makes it even worse. So I guess I'm just looking for support and maybe suggestions on what to do when your alternatives don't work.

cry in the bathroom in your apartment, or maybe in the shower?

Yeah, you need a place to cry. Can you go for a walk and cry.

I'm sorry you feel like you always have to hold it in. Everyone needs to cry sometimes. If you need privacy for it, maybe you could ask your roommate to leave your apartment for a while? I'm sure they will be understanding, you don't have to explain why. Just ask them for half an hour or an hour of privacy.
