Once is too much...

I would still call weekly often... I guess it would also depend on how serious your SI events are.

I think if you feel like it's often, or often for you, or increased, or more often than during previous times, then it's often.
I'm curious why you ask? Did someone ask you, and you're trying to figure out how to answer?

Gr3tta -- no, no one asked me. I had just read about s-i happening "often" but there was never a definition for often.

I have no idea how often others s-i. I can go a week between sessions, or a few hours. I would say I average 3-4 times a week.

That sounds pretty often to me. Does it concern you?

i SI 4-7 times a week, depending obviously on triggers/moods etc. Sometimes i can SI 3 times a day. But then go a couple of days with nothing. Id class myself as doing it Often. And my T classes my SI as often as well.

I do it off and on.

Sometimes I have impulses and can control them and sometimes I can't.

Gr3tta, that's a good question. Does it concern me? Mmm, sort of. I'm running out of places. But it helps tremendously. I already e excise like crazy as a coping mechanism. . .

To me, that's always the most important question. If something concerns me, or it interferes in activities I want to do, or with relationships I want to maintain, then that defines it as a problem. Something has to truly bother you in order for you to be properly motivated to really work to change it. If you don't care, then you won't change.
Exercising is a great way to help distract, and resist urges. There is a list of suggestions of things to do instead of SI at the top of the forum. There's some good ideas in there.
Thanks for this!

i dont do it often. maybe a few times a month. but they are huge.

it like eating many small snacks vs 3 huge meals with everything on the plate.

im the latter. it takes about 1-2 weeks for them to fade away. so..hmm...yea thats about right. few times a month.
