was just wondering what your experiences are of trying it.

I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds pretty cool. I like to draw, so maybe I will be intricate about it, all different colors and stuff.

I honestly think it's ridiculous. A picture of a butterfly on your wrist isn't gonna stop you self-harming if you really want and need to. You will just find other places.

I don't think the butterfly by itself is meant to keep a person from self-harming - it's the thought behind the drawing that does. The butterfly just serves as a reminder of the loved ones we are hurting by SI, keeping them in mind for when we go to hurt ourselves again. Sure, the drawing won't stop a person who really wants/needs to SI, but it's a good little trick for those who are ready to quit and need the extra reminder.

I've tried the butterfly project, and it was helpful, because I always named the butterfly after my friends and it reminded me I wanted to stop for them.
