where could I find info? I tried looking online, but I think I am searching for the wrong things... I guess I'm looking for something that offers a sponsor-like program... I like that part of the 12-step model... I get triggered by the religion/higher power piece, but I could really use a person here that I could talk to frankly about all this, and who would know what I was struggling to say (or at least something close to it). it doesn't exist, does it?

You could look into Emotions Anonymous-it's a twelve step program. If you use the search engines you can find the web site. It has literature similar to AA and has meetings during the week. The number of groups vary from state to state.
EA(Emotions Anonymous)has derived from the AA(Alcoholic Anonymous)principles. I can't garauntee a meeting in your area, but check out the website.

All twelve step programs include a higher power. Some groups focus less on it. A lot of people that go to AA arnt very sure of the higher power bit.

That worries me. I looked up the info, and actually got it a while ago from my therapist, by I am to nervous to go because of the religion piece... I wish it wasn't part of it.
