...that is so bad about this? Why is it that I shouldn't do this? Why should I feel bad about it? If I'm so on edge and I self harmed, and it brought me back down, mellowed me out, and I feel better, Why's this so wrong? Huh?

Any reasons? Anyone?

((((((((Lily))))))))

I just gave you my opinion in Chat - but wanted to let you know that I am here for you if you ever want to talk

Edit: You might also want to check out the pinned list above called "Reasons Not To" ... but my reason is simply this - I try not to do it because I know I'll regret it because what caused me to do it will not go away permanently - only temporarily.

Lily,
Anything that is not done out of love is not good. Is there anyway that cutting yourself is an act of love? No way. Its that simple. Although it is a coping mechanism..its not ideal..

Because doing stuff like this does damage to your body. There's enough bad stuff in the rest of the world, that anytime we can avoid more damage, that's better for us. When you harm your body, you set yourself up for more injury or sickness... and yes, the mind also suffers, as there is no separation of mind/body.

Its just not good for your body.
I also self harm, and it does take everything bad away.
But only for a little bit, over all, in the end, all it did was give you scars.
Please take good care of your self.
PM me if you'd like.

Lily, how are you doing now? When you first posted this I didn't answer because I was a little too close to siding with your point. It is difficult to keep why not to in focus. We do have a thread pinned above for us all to look back at when we forget. That is why it is there - I forget too.

Everyone's reasons might be different. The biggest one for me is that SI is only a very temporary fix. It avoids dealing with the problem, and makes things worse in the long run.

Another big problem with it is that it hurts people who care about you.

You can always do a cost-benefit analysis. Write down why you want to hurt yourself and why not to do it (pros and cons), and then decide based on the reasons you come up with.
