Just wondering the average age of the members who self harm. I am 46 but recently restarted but I have it under control.

I started when I was about 35, and my T was very surprised since I did not ever do it as a child or in college or ever before. I am managing not to right now...partly because it's getting so warm here and hard to cover up...

I have leather wrap bracelets that go up and around my wrists, but since I am not a teenager I can't always look like I am going to a rock concert...
Or practicing to be Xena, The Warrior Princess.
Thanks for this!

Im 30.
Started at 13. Stopped around 21.
Started again in January 2012.

But now it's usually on my upper right thigh but I'm modest. Capris, no shorts above the knee, long dresses, long skirts, just have to hide it from my husband.

I started when I was twelve. I regret the choice painfully but oh well. The past can't be erased. :\

I started at 16 or 17. Can't really remember, was really depressed back then and don't have a lot of memories of that. I stop at 19 after some therapy. I started again a couple months ago, and it seems obe getting worse, but I don't get the same feelings now. I used to feel relieved at maybe a little numb.

I started at 7... Over the years it escalated to cutting, that started at aged 12/13. It's been on and off ever since. I've never been clear for a whole year, which sucks :/

Started when I was 14 and went on and off. Fortunately I caught myself. I'm 16 now and a week away from 8 months free. Still miss it at times, but I mean... who wouldn't?

Bottom line of this thread is, there is no "average age". Different things happen to different people at different times.

I started when I was about 25 and have stopped and started several times and had about a year when I restarted and now I have about 30 days again and I am 46 years old now. I appreciate you posting this because I kind of felt alone because a couple friends of mine said that this was a kids illness and I should not be doing it!!!!

I started in my late teens and continued into my early 20's. Stopped from mid 20's to my 30's and started again two years ago when I was 45.

As for covering up I have scars on my forearms from wrist to elbows and I don't hide it. At times I am grateful for when it is colder like winter and I can wear long sleeves but I will not make my self suffer in the heat of the summer. I have suffered enough and refuse suffer to make other people comfortable.

My 2 cents on the matter.

Started when I was 14/15 stopped when I was around 18. Started again around 22 until 26 or so. I'm 30 now and don't ever want to do it again. Doesn't mean I don't think about it. In my head I can actually see/feel myself do it and sorta get relief from that. Is that weird?

I am 25 I started with head banging and pulling my hair at age of 6ish. Over the years I've escalated at 17 started cutting and stopped cutting at 22 some of the other acts continued but within the past month 2 1/2 years went down the drain. I cut one time but stopped after that. Still occasionally do other stuff, but I'm healing.
