I'm very bad at dealing with any emotions (good or bad) and any time i feel strong or unexpected emotion I feel the need to harm myself. It could be a good or bad emotion, it doesn't matter. Any one else like this? How do you deal with it?

Are you sensitive to the emotions of other people in the room if you are somewhere with a lot of people? Some people are effected by the emotions of others.

Bad emotions set me off, but then, I never really have good emotions. Do you feel like you shouldn't feel strong emotions? There are all kinds of reasons why people self harm. Some do it to feel, some to punish themselves, some use themselves as surrogates for someone they are angry at. Personally, my biggest trigger for self harm is if I'm in an overwhelming situation that I can't escape from. The feeling of being trapped. Thankfully I've been able to control that for about two years now, but the urges are still there.

If you don't have a therapist, you might want to seriously think about finding one. Regardless of how much damage you do to yourself, you still risk infection, bleeding out or the loss of function to a limb. Even if you are not trying to kill yourself, it could still happen. Self harm is a symptom of emotional pain and the only way you will be able to stop is by finding out why you are damaging yourself. Find a therapist who has dealt with people who self harm. You aren't weird or a freak. Just someone who is in pain and needs help getting out of a hole.

1) Yes I'm easily affected by other's emotions and I think that's why I don't like being in large groups of people.
2)I don't like to feel emotions and the strong and unexpected ones are the hardest to push back. I am a much more stable person if I'm not feeling emotions.
3) Being trapped in a situation is another one of my main triggers.
4) I do not have a therapist but at only 16 I don't want to bother my parents with it.
5) Thank you so much. This is the best advice I've ever gotten.
