I tried to give my therapist my self-harm tools before but I obsessed over it and asked for them back the next week. I am going to try again. I've collected all my pocket knives, blades etc and I plan to give them to my therapist.

I need to stop because the scars are horrible.

Give me some hope that I can do this and be successful.

You can do this! I threw away two scalpels I use today. Just threw them in the dumpster and didn't look back. I still have other tools, but I too can't stand to look at what I've done to myself any longer and need to stop. We can work together to get rid of our tools.

You can do this. It is possible to get through this and getting rid of the tools is a great step.

Take it slow and lean on the forum and your therapist if you need to. Use your other coping strategies when becoming overwhelmed.

It's not always easy but it does get better in time. Good luck

To get rid of your tools is a big step. I did it a couple of weeks ago. I was afraid the first night but felt kind of free since then..but I didn't give them up until I knew for sure I had been able to cope a few times using different strategies. The impulse can be there for a long time, it's an addiction. But you can fight this. Make a list of things to do that can keep you occupied until the impulse passes. Journaling what is triggering you has really helped me. But I do still struggle at times, but so far, so good.

Good luck.

I gave my therapist all my tools. Hopefully I can leave them with him and not ask for them back or buy new ones.
