Has anyone ever had surgery or any other procedure done that you knew your doctor was going to see your cuts or scars? I know I posted about this once with my obgyn, but she knew me and I had no "fresh" cuts just lots of faded scars when I saw her. I'm having surgery next Friday, and I have a lot of new cuts on my thighs. It's not like I'll be able to hide it, and I'm afraid of what the surgeon is going to say or think. I know this is probably not rational, but it's what's on my mind right now.

This absolutely happened to me. I went to the drug store and got big band aids the 4 inch by 4 inch ones and covered the cuts on my thighs. When the nurse came in the prep me for surgery I explained the band aids and asked if I could keep them on. She said that since the surgery was a hysterectomy and not on my thighs that it should be fine.
Thanks for this!

I think I'll try that and see if it works. My surgery is my spleen and gallbladder, and most of my cuts are my thighs and a few on my wrists, so maybe it will work for me.

I would explain it, and say that you are in treatment (which I hope you are) for it. Otherwise, they will make consults and be concerned about it. I wish you luck in your surgery!

Yes I'm in therapy for it. I worry that it will be marked on the pre op/post op paperwork, and that this will be faxed to the clinical trial that I'm in for a follow up. Stupid rationalization, but they don't know about any of my anxiety problems and neither does my hematologist or my surgeon.

Yes! I had a similar experience. I know most of my cuts are on my abdomen. Most do not ask. But the one who did didn't say a thing. They often document it and probably the worse thing that will happen is you need to reassure them your T and pdoc are aware.

I hope that's all I have to do is let them know that my therapist and doctor know about it.
