This shouldn't be triggering, but use caution.
I was just wondering, does anyone use SI for physical pain instead of mental pain? It seems strange to replace physical pain with other physical pain, but does it work the same? (the rhyme is unintentional) I'm just curious, not considering it. Thanks, -Sam.

I guess it would be considered SI, though I never thought about it that way. I have pinched myself (with my nails, hard enough to break skin) and punched myself to take my focus off of pain before. I have not cut to mask physical pain though. This is an interesting (in a good way) question.

Interesting, but not unheard of. There are a WIDE variety of reasons behind SI, some are mental, some are physical and some are spiritual. We all do it to distract from something that we seek to run from. I do it to escape the present and yes some times that includes the physical pain to bring more pain, until the pain starts to erase some of the things I seek to distract myself.
