I haven't posted in this forum before, but I am wondering if anyone has any links that may explain what my PDoc said. He said that the location of cuts means different things, but didn't tell me what. I could ask him, but then we would get into a frustrating discussion about why I want to know. I would really rather skip all that.

Hi lostwonder,

I have never heard of this before, but it would be interesting to find out what your doc was talking about. I hope you are able to get an answer. I'm interested to know what he/she would say about my cuts. Good luck!

I agree that I never heard of this. The only thing I have heard is that different areas are more popular to cut on, such as the arms, thighs, etc than other areas like the abdomen.

I have also not heard that. The only thing I can guess he means is maybe the visibility of any cuts, or the proximity to major organs/veins/arteries...? Maybe what is your dominant hand if cutting on your arms (though my scars would throw anyone off about that). Oh, and genital cutting strongly correlates with sexual abuse or assault history. But that's all I can think of.
I have not encountered anything specific in the literature besides the correlation to sexual assault though, so I think anything else he may be talking about is either inferred soley by him, or in a small circle that has not published anything either peer-reviewed or otherwise.

Interesting.

I would be curious to know if there was any consensus to this as well. I know for me, I cut in different areas for different reasons. Some based off of how well I could cover it up or hide it, or how it would heal. Also, I know that depending on where I cut, it felt different physically.

I'm going to have to ask him, because I'm at a loss. It is only a cursory inquiry, and certainly not pressing. I'll let y'all know when I get around to it.
